 Create a file .xsession in your homedirectory.

 I use

 xterm -ls -geometry 80x24+0+63 &
 xterm -ls -geometry 80x24+515+63 &
 /usr/bin/X11/fvwm2 &
 /usr/bin/panel

 Alternatively, you could just use the line
 gnome-session
